Saw this oddity last month in Murcia province, Spain. A dedicated bike path that extends for over 30 km and appears to have zero users. It follows the service road of the main RM-1 highway from Murcia city all the way to the coast (just south of Alicante). The service road has almost zero traffic (I passed two cars in 20 km), rendering the bike path completely superfluous, hence its state.

Can a person ride 30Km in that environment without fear of death or starvation and for a useful purpose like getting somewhere or meeting someone?
The Google suggested cycling route along the RM-1 from Murcia to San Javier indicates it takes about 2h 30m to do the 46km between them with a climb of only 287m, leaving you in the centre of a city where you can consume plenty of cervezas.
So its not too bad. It could be kombucha.
In a sweltering 40°C you will need two water bottles every ~ 10-15km. A 287m climb is substantial to be noticeable too.
The mean weather in Murcia during summer is about 35C. Definitely depends on your fitness how noticeable 287m of climbing is. Komoot rates it “moderate” and suggests it’s doable in 1h 40m with max inclines of 4% or so.
Can confirm that in late November it was not just feasible but really very pleasant! Murcia is one of the sunniest places in Europe. And, as you say, incredibly hot in summer.

Does it matter what the purpose is? It’s nice to have the option for sport or as a part of a cross country trek.
