I’m sure they charged him $85,000* for the privilage as well.

Also the person who tried saving a kitten from a skunk is a fucking idiot you should always get a rabies shot if a wild and in this case vicious animal scratches you.

They also should have tested for that it was disclosed to the organ donation team by the family and they didn’t do it because they said “its rare in humans”. Fucking idiots.

Info from this article (that has a reject all for the cookies)

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/michigan-man-dies-of-rabies-after-receiving-kidney-from-infected-donor-who-saved-kitten-from-skunk-cdc/ar-AA1S2SU1

*also as pointed out by another user down below the cost of a kidney transplant in the USA is now around the $500,000 mark. Idk if that’s without insurance or with it but either way that’s insane and shameful that we put this burden on people going through this.

      1973 wants it’s comment back.

Average cost of kidney transplant in 2025 is $446,800.

Jesus. Yeah I shouldn’t be surprised, they will take everything you have and more than you can make in a lifetime. I edited the original comment to reflect that number.

They also should have tested for that

Hey safety standards totally undermine profits, why do you hate America? 😋

Where are you getting that the family disclose that to the organ donation team? That’s not in the article.

I automatically find a different source anytime an annoying cookies banner pops up that doesn’t have reject all clearly labelled on it.

All right just as a tip then, if you’re going to comment on a post about an article while referencing information in a separate article you should really cite/quote the new information.

I never have understood why people don’t search any story they read for alternate sources. Its one of the main ways I find bullshit stories. If every article has the exact text then its suspect. If you can’t find anything but social media post its suspect.

The donor in this case, an Idaho man, had been found unresponsive after a presumed cardiac arrest in early December 2024, around five weeks after being scratched by a skunk in late October.

      Right there in the article.

That’s why I was asking questions. Found, presumed etc. Did they not follow back up or was the guy dead for a while in that 5 week period or was he not experiencing rabies symptoms? Was rabies aquired after he died?

Rabies tends to come with encephalitis was that not noted anywhere?

Nope. Especially if there were no other symptoms associated with the victim’s passing.
