National Trust looks to halt construction, claiming Trump tore down historic East Wing without needed permission

Donald Trump is facing a federal lawsuit seeking to halt construction on his $300m White House ballroom, with historic preservationists accusing the president of violating multiple federal laws by tearing down part of the iconic building without required reviews or congressional approval.

The legal challenge, filed on Friday by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the US district court for the District of Columbia, represents the most significant attempt yet to stop Trump’s 90,000-sq-ft addition to the White House complex. The organization is seeking a temporary restraining order to freeze all construction activities until proper federal oversight procedures are completed.

“No president is legally allowed to tear down portions of the White House without any review whatsoever – not President Trump, not President Joe Biden, and not anyone else,” the complaint reads. “And no president is legally allowed to construct a ballroom on public property without giving the public the opportunity to weigh in.”

Trump has never in his life followed a budget in any way, all of his projects always blow up into disasters.

If they are saying $300 million in construction, I’m thinking actual costs will be over a billion.

    At best.

I think we are both being too generous and it will actually cost 2 billion, 1 billion for construction and 1 billion for Trump (he’s done this many times, not a conspiracy, this was all public information before he ran for President).

It’s remarkably funny how people still think he can be held responsible for anything he has done. It’s one thing for a few judges to stop him from doing something illegal, however it’s entirely different when he goes and does it anyway and arrives at the consequences for his action phase.

    Face the truth of this:

No one has either the balls or the authority to hold him accountable. And he knows it.

Sure, but it’s important entities keep trying to until the balls show up.

Maybe some balls take time, but great balls happen all at once

He got fined more than that for raping E Jean Carroll…he didn’t pay that fine, and he won’t pay this fine either.
    Not that he’ll get convicted.

The person who has the spine to convict this orange kiddie fucker will forever go down in history.

I just don’t get it, He’s like the Al Capone of legal Teflon. And He just doesn’t do what anyone tells him and nothing at all happens?

I don’t get it. His legal team can’t be that perfect?

Historically, he doesn’t even pay his lawyers. Just moves on to a new team when the old one realizes it isn’t getting paid.

Same thing with every contractor he’s ever hired.

It has nothing to do with his legal team. Democratic/Republican leadership adores him. The real leadership, not the public face. He’s very useful to them, as Trump is all about money and absolutely nothing else.

The Carrol issue isn’t over yet. It will go to the Supreme Court, but if he loses, he certainly will pay. In order to continue his appeals, he had to purchase a $91 million bond, which will cover the award if he loses his appeals.

It’s not yet clear if he will have to pay or not, but if the courts declare him the loser, then she’ll get his money, whether he likes it or not.

He was deep in debt when he took office in 2016, but he has used the presidency to become very rich. He is a bonafide billionaire at this point, and probably even wealthier than we know.
