Jordan Bardella, the president of Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party (RN), which Bardot supported,

    😬

Bardot’s incendiary comments about ethnic minorities, immigration, Islam and homosexuality resulted in a string of convictions for inciting racial hatred.

    That tracks.

As well as for cinema audiences, Bardot swiftly became an inspiration for intellectuals and artists; not least the young John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who demanded their then girlfriends dye their hair blond in imitation of her.

    Lovely

It’s wild how far off the rails a person’s thinking can go through a lifetime of privilege and societal insulation.

She was also a vegetarian, a lifelong animal rights activist, close friend of Paul Watson (founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society), and the founder of her own Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the welfare and protection of animals.

      People are complicated!

Ah thanks, I didn’t really know anything about her. But, I can’t get upset if someone got a bit mush-headed at age 91.

I’ve seen about 40 variations of this exact comment today.

Is there like an army of bots trying to protect a Nazi’s legacy?

I think just a lot of people like me who had heard of the person but had no awareness of her issues. She was a famous actress in the 1950s-1960s which was way before most of us were around, or at least paying attention. After that, she may have made some noise in France but I don’t remember much of it reaching here. I probably would have mentioned it if I knew about or remembered it.

Anyway, the point of being a sex bomb is that nobody dares disagree with you about anything since it would ruin their chance of getting a date (not that any of us had a chance anyway, even if we were around back then). So you can be as evil as you want and still get unlimited attention and deference. It must be nice. We see that with some show biz types in the present day too, and similarly with some ultra rich dudes.

Yikes, although I guess I shouldn’t expect someone 91 years old to have very progressive views.

There’s “not having progressive views” and then there’s “thinks it should be illegal for people of different races to get married”
