But they do though. The problem is the timeframe isn’t fixed. Could be tomorrow could be 20 years. That’s the monkeys paw in action.
The imaginary forces of good are always just over the horizon for some reason.

I think he was going for the “and everyone lived happily ever after” business common to tgose stories. Reality tends not to wrap up so neatly.
