“Deal with worse UX or pay us to develop more crap” is not a good way to entice “voluntary” donations.
That’s okay because that’s not what’s happening, as I’ve already explained. It is a purchase, not a donation. It’s not a novel approach, many other beloved FOSS software take a similar approach to secure funding. Off the top of my head, Zorin OS, Immich, OSMAnd, OnlyOffice, Cryptpad, etc.
