On Monday, the US Supreme Court decided in Trump v. Slaughter that the US Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) may not be independent anymore. Since 2000, the EU has relied on the “independent” FTC as the enforcer of EU-US deals on personal data. According to EU treaty law, such oversight must be independent. In the current EU-US deal, the European Commission relies on the independent FTC 259 (!) times.

NOYB (non of your business) is great! Not so much a primary news site, but an Austrian NGO that focuses on data privacy in the EU. They have taken some of the biggest cases related to EU:US data transfers against the EU.

Pretty sure it’ll make no difference. The agreements were already constantly being broken, and the EU only occassionally bothered doing anything about it. With the current European Comission being made up entirely of American assets, I suspect we’ll see no action on this whatsoever.

Shits just getting started. This is just going to be one of many dominoes from this ruling to the ultimate demise of the USA, even if they do get rid of Trump.

This + Citizens United + President can’t be charged for official acts = game over.

The presidency is no longer trust worthy, and now every US agency is no longer trust worthy.

    FDA: The drug isn’t safe

    Trump: Approve it

    FDA: The drug isn’t safe

    Trump: You’re fired

FDA: The drug is the BEST DRUG WE’VE EVER SEEN!

    Every single agency.

The day that the regular people of Europe and America, realize our leaders are all mutually fucking us together and hopping over to an island to fuck kids while laughing at us will be a fucking great day.

Watching The Man in the High castle hits very different now.
People over here are seeing what is going on in the USA but
they might still vote for Reform and then we are done. The rich will make sure that they control everything including
    every citizen.
Palantir, Musk, Bezos,Thiel and all the other monsters will plunder
what is left of the worlds resources and retreat to their many bunkers
or Mars. They think AI will fix the earth and according to them millions will die in the process of them remaking the world into a Technocratic feudal system. And for that they want all the data till they know more
about you than you do yourself.

At least that’s what they have in their project 2025 and beyond as a plan.
They want only the “right” people to survive. It makes horrifying reading, they think of empathy and kindness as big
massive weakness, they want the sick, disabled ,lgbtq and others to die as thy are seen as a burden on their system. Sorry for the rant but I am old and these people scare me.

There have always been issues. There was a lot of precursor to this. But there has never been anything this bad.

America was a beacon for the world, despite our violations and blemishes. Relative to the rest of history, we were leading the world ina better direction,.

Nixon was out after Watergate. You don’t have to bribe our doctors or our cops during traffic stops. While we’re having issues with LGBTQ, we were a leader in treating people with respect for a few decades. That’s our norm.

“Our” racism targets eastern Europeans and (in my region) Turkish ppl, but I guess that’s not racist because they’re close enough in skin tone? (/s obviously)

Oh yeah? What’s your beacon of a country? England? France? China? Russia?

The fact is we were generally dragging the world (in hand with Europe) towards better ideals, like equal rights for all, democracy, and eliminating low level corruption.

It wasn’t always the case, and was certainly in fits and starts. But in our absence I don’t see China or India having that generally positive influence on the world.

Yes, there’s room for improvement. But if we’re at a C while most other countries are content with an F, well…

USAID has done a lot of good around the world.

not haveing universal healthcare while bad is nothing like the crazyness of trump. As for the rest. Pia Vesta. Operation Condor. Private prisons showed up during reagan and is part of the downward spiral that got us to current and same with invading oil rich countries. Proxy shenanigans are also very prevelant outside of the us. So what im saying is the things you list in some cases are just common in the world not just the us and in other case were fought against and is part of what lead to trump. This is different mainly because the constitution is just being flaughted outright rather than being chipped at and scotus is not defending the constitution and half of congress is derelict in their duty to impeach him for flagrantly breaking the laws of the nation.

Yeah us was involved with that along with many other countries. again not just a us thing. europe, russia, asia, south america have all had things like you try to pretend is just the us. now I did address the uniquely us things but much improvement post ww2 came out of the us response to the depression. Anyway the point is what happening under trump is different. is worse. and is not business as usual as folks like you want to make it out. Woah guys, we got someone who fell hard for the propaganda.

The US spread fascism around the world in the form of the most destructive industry man ever invented the military industrial complex. The US has only been without conflict for a very short time in all its history.

We have committed and assisted in multiple genocides and our destruction to the environment through our proliferation of polluting technology has poisoned every single human on the planet. By my estimates we have lost close to a billion people from pollution in the last 50 years.

While I will admit the current administration of outright thieves is shocking, this type of back room dealing had always been a part of our extremely corrupt nation.

Most of what you praise is literally propaganda and very little can be attributed to reality. Sure the US has had more decorum in the past, but that ain’t saying much.

          There have always been issues.

That is a crazy way to diminish the reality that this nation only exists because of a holocaust and only became an economic powerhouse because of slavery.

America has never been worth a god damn thing. Some Americans are fine people, but the system, the nation? Designed to be diseased.

Snap out of your American exceptionalism fever-dream and step into the real world, please.
