Republicans are exploiting a flaw in the government.
They can attack the press using the government to win elections. If sued and they lose, they don’t pay, the taxpayers pay. And since Democrat majority states pay more in taxes than Republican, they are making Democrats pay for the overthrow of the government into fascism.
Furthermore the money the taxpayers paid both to defend Trump against the lawsuit and then pay back in damages to the New York Times doesn’t reverse the political damage already done. It’s win win for Trump. He’s using the Democrat taxpayers to pay for the Republican reelection campaign.
