Going by comments in the post, the required login is coming in waves, so not all people may notice immediately.
Still, as Reddit is strong-arming its way across, maybe worth signaling to people there that the fediverse may be used without an account, so long as there’s even one instance that implements logged-out view as the protocol allows it?
I don’t have access to my account any longer, possibly VPN ban, though I never tried to recover it so I can only guess why mine is lost, else I’d post myself.



I think bots are inevitable here as well. I think the only thing that keeps them away is how small Lemmy is.
If Lemmy ever became worth anything i dont know how they could effectively counter bots in the age of AI.
the instances also makes it hard too. its not like a one account for all instances, although you can cross-post and what not.
defederating with spam instances and hand approving new accounts is how I’d do it. we have years of lessons from email spam we can apply. I suspect that we should start working on this now while there isn’t much of a problem
temp emails are usually blocked by some of the platforms too, to lower the spam.
