I can walk into any store that sells firearms in my state and purchase any handgun, shotgun, or rifle with only a drivers license as ID. I can’t buy anything fully automatic or with a suppressor without more paperwork and taxes. This basically limits fully automatic and suppressors to ownership by the rich. Funny how that works.
That said, I can buy semiautomatic AR or AK platform rifles with high capacity magazines or even belt-fed variants.
I can buy mail order today and have it shipped to a local gun shop where I need to present my driver’s license and pay a small transfer fee (I think I paid $20 the last time I did that).
The only reason these fuckwits are talking about allowing direct mail order is to trick 2nd amendment voters into voting for them. Can you imagine FexEx leaving an AR box on your doorstep?
There’s now just paperwork for silencers, the $200 tax is gone. If you e-file the paperwork you can maybe get it in a couple weeks, less if you’re applying for a form 1 to construct your own silencer. You don’t have to be rich, you just have to be patient and know how to fill out forms and get your fingerprints taken.
You can’t just buy any gun you want and have it sent to you in the mail, no questions asked. If anyone out there thinks this is possible, I encourage you to try it and see how far you get.
There’s plenty to complain about, no need to make shit up.
The article clearly mentions that while you can order online, you’d still have to pick up the gun at an FFL, who’d also handle verification.
What the article criticizes is the proposal of the Trump administration to get rid of that process and do in fact allow mail ordering firearms. They’re proposals at this point, but it’s still worth talking about so it doesn’t fly under the radar.
Not sure mail order makes a big difference, US citizens, what’s your take here?
Our politicians refuse to provide basic services, but they’ll let us buy guns through the mail and violently shit our pants. These are the problems you get in a failed state. 🤣
yuuuuuuup
