The second is exactly right, though at the same time school books are a massive scam too. They’ll change a picture or reorganize the wording and say the old one is outdated. I don’t know anything about k-12 book sales but I am intimately aware of how the college book system works. So I can’t imagine it’s a whole lot different other than possibly cheaper to avoid scandal.
Has middle school subjects changed so much that they need new materials? Or are they avoiding paying for licensed educational materials?
