Broan-NuTone bathroom vent fans have apparently been catching fire (there was a recall a while back, and some fires recently). This case is interesting because the insurance paid and then went to sue NuTone to recoup the payment, but they couldn’t prove exactly how the fan overheated so they didn’t win.
All electricity eventually turns into heat, sometimes a little too quickly though. That’s usually where the problems start
Yeah, the analysis was that the thermal fuse didn’t disconnect power correctly when the motor overheated, but there was some technicality about not being able to either (a) show exactly why it failed, or (b) make the claim that it doesn’t matter only that it did fail at the right time in the legal proceedings.
I’m amazed a thermal fuse failed, huh. I doubt they manufactured it themselves anyways since that’s absolutely an off the shelf part but it seems like those would have been entirely foolproof. At best insurance could have argued that they cheaped out and bought the jankiest, cheapest possible parts but that’s just THE AMERICAN WAY so that wouldn’t have done anything anyways.
