Not to mention, our roads are absolutely destroyed by gravel and mineral dump trucks driving on them at a rate of hundreds per day, but the county/state won’t do anything to the companies because they say they’ll move to the neighboring county/state. So we get terrible roads, roads closed constantly for repair, and then pay more in taxes over it to make these repairs, because they don’t want to lose the business taxes. The employees complain about the roads out of one side of their mouth, demand less taxes from the middle, and then whine and complain when elected officials even propose something to solve it because it might effect their employment a little.

Red states have these things too, just not all of them. My state is staunchly red, has yearly vehicle inspection requirements, and we continually pay to subsidize coal companies taking on projects (under the assumption they will pay to clean up the used land once done), only for the LLC to go bankrupt and the state get handed a bill. We have a gas tax, and are in the top half of all states in the amount. We don’t have recreational weed, but we have medical, however the rules around it basically guaranteed only out of state companies could open places, funneling money from the state (you needed $1 million in CASH on top of your start up funding to even be considered for a license). Some people just refuse to introspect and look for the easy way out, i.e. blame immigrants and Democrats. Trump has come here often, and made plenty of promises, delivered on none of them. Nothing has gotten cheaper, we’re cutting sweetheart deals to data centers, and these idiots will continue to elect coal barons and millionaires because they get permission to hate the right people from them.

Insanely well said. It seems like the goal with much of the discourse is just “my choice is right and everything else is wrong, and I’ll work backwards from there”. Not everyone uses social media the same way, not everyone has the same goals, not everyone wants the same features, not everyone values the same levels of privacy. And the running narrative with differing opinions on this seems to just be base-level tribalism. Just look at the insults here, lobbed solely because someone made an account with a social media platform that doesn’t align with your preferences.
