  • You would think but the major news media sure does their hard work to make suggesting not doing things like this is a hate crime. Also the fear politicians have around going against particular lobbyist groups is palpable. What the people want and what’s in the best interest of the country seems nowhere to be regarded currently by those in office, unfortunately on both sides of the aisle. I’m often reminded of the Tal Shiar and federation in this scenario.

  • So far as I’ve traveled. It seems easier for the population to be at least aware of what’s going on and engaged, particularly in the 10M and fewer population sizes. That engagement in turn seems to generally have good outcomes. Of course there are some outliers, but generally that seems to be around the limit where the population seems to maintain a strong awareness of the country in most places. Also yeah what you’re saying is definitely true as well.

  • If I were to bet some states would go it alone or form smaller unions until they realize this drastically weakens them internally and on the global stage and ultimately a union would be formed not unlike the European union for the same reason the EU formed. When you go from part of a global power to a backwater 2nd or 3rd world country it’s pretty noticeable and the people there will want the former glory. Also losing strategic locations like Alaska or Hawaii would be big. At least Hawaii is too valuable as a military asset, if the US loses it someone else will take their shot at colonizing it. Essentially they’ll never be able to be their own country.

  • So same people new clothes? Also yeah I generally agree we don’t need nations but understand it’s unlikely the concept is going anywhere anytime soon. I just don’t see Israel or most definitely the US collapsing and then the people just don’t organize into any structure ever again. Some new nation will take form which may be better or far far worse. For all real outcomes a full collapse of the US is bad news bears for everyone. At minimum that arsenal just randomly in a new and untested player’s hands with unknown laws or governing structure is concerning.

  • The government does what the people allow it to do, same as corporations. It is the duty of citizens to police their government as well as corporations and consequently hold the keys to the kingdom, to riches. As above, most people are ignorant which to a degree is understandable, we can’t all be aware of everything all the time but like individual things in our life, we need to become aware when it is vital. I’ve never been a fan of just blaming the rich and powerful, it removes all agency from the masses who allowed it to happen. Power comes when people know they have it and with power comes responsibility to wield it.

  • Don’t worry, the majority of the global population are roped into it through convenience, cost savings at purchase, and ignorance. The true power is and has always been in the majority’s hands. If they don’t want something then it cannot be. For instance if enough of the population refused to buy single use plastics then no seller could make money from those products, no producer could make money manufacturing them and ultimately there would be no single use plastics. It’s called a carrot mob, the majority swing the carrot (the money) the way they want and the rabbit (industry) follows. The majority of the world aren’t helpless weaklings incapable of action and at the whims of a few hundred or dozen individuals.
