What do you mean “they actually listened to the community”? If they’d listen to the community, there’d be NO AI whatsoever.

Technology@lemmy.world•The upgrade argument for desktops doesn't stand up anymore
18·3 days agoEverything is disposable. I don’t think you or the author who wrote that article has a clue. It’s a matter of getting things that’ll last longer than others do and making financially wise choices and purchasing decisions based on the needs of the moment.
Like, I’m not spending $5 on a toothbrush when you need to replace it every 30 days, I buy the cheapest toothbrush I can afford to replace it with since they’re all equally made. I will spend some more money on a computer component if I feel it will have a positive increment on my entire system. Replacing my entire system would just set me back big and it would make me waste the components that are already inside that are still good. Plus, if I decide to sell the old system, I’m not going to get a good value back.
The only thing I’ve yet to replace is the case. Why? Because it’s still serviceable to me.
I just don’t get this stupid logic where you have to replace the entire system. For what? just to be with the in-crowd of current technology trends? No thanks, I’ll build my PC based on what I want out of it.

News@lemmy.world•Trump Admits He Is “Not at All” Deescalating ICE Raids After Democrats Fold on Government Shutdown
1411·6 days agoShit like this makes me throw in the towel of caring about politics. I don’t want to vote for anyone anymore. When nobody wants to hold active traitors accountable for their destructive actions, what’s the fucking point anymore?
Dems are just hoping for people to vote for them this year but they’re not making very convincing arguments as to why we should, after we’ve seen them fold and fold again to an active threat to everyone’s lives.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google will pay $135 million to settle illegal data collection lawsuit
10·7 days agoHope they’re happy with their $10 payout.
I only took part of one class action lawsuit and it was against Facebook. I still look back on that and feel a little regretful. I’m only one dude so I can’t possibly hope to take on Facebook solely in a court environment. I got $14 payout. But in doing so, means I can’t ever legally take action against them anyways.
So, don’t settle for this. Keep Google accountable.

Technology@lemmy.world•Kernel Community Drafts a Plan For Replacing Linus Torvalds
12·7 days agoI don’t think anyone should replace Linus Torvalds.
As is the essence of open source, Linux as a whole should fall to the community. The problem though is, there will come a point of disagreements with how things could go.

News@lemmy.world•Cruz reportedly says Trump yelled and cursed over warning of midterm election ‘bloodbath’
11·10 days ago“You’re going to lose the House, you’re going to lose the Senate, you’re going to spend the next two years being impeached every single week.”
And maybe, just maybe this time, Republicans who are getting soured on by what Trump is doing, may not protect him. McConnell will not be there this time to protect Trump.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Democrats Need to Take On ICE
9·10 days agoDemocrats already failed you. They’re trying to pad PR now after they’ve just voted to fund ICE when they could’ve had every ample opportunity to say NO. Most didn’t, a large number did.

Technology@lemmy.world•This New Android Smartphone Is For Everyone Who Misses the Blackberry
5·10 days agoThis could be my next phone.
But, but, though. Will the OS be non-proprietary? Will I be able to actually use all the apps I would ideally want? Because, much as I love my Samsung Galaxy, I really do wish I could remove a lot of its bloatware off the phone that I know I won’t ever use.

Technology@lemmy.world•RAM Prices Got You Down? Try DDR3. Seriously!
26·11 days agoI’m fine on DDR4. DDR5 feels to me, something I’ll get into in like 5 - 10 years from now. This is from someone who has sat on DDR2 and DDR3 machines for extended periods of time. If they’re still doing the job I want them to, no complaints.

News@lemmy.world•‘Disheartening’: US Justice Department slashes funding to programs combating child sex trafficking
4·12 days agoLets be honest, the US does a shit job actually bringing justice to pedos anyways. Short of them actually raping kids and/or including up to murdering them straight after the raping, does the justice system finally step in.
Pedophiles are slimy fucking creatures. I’ve came across a couple online and I’m not exaggerating when I say i’ve spent 8 freaking years, I and a few other people, just trying to get something done about them as they hounded young teenagers. Yet, they got away and are able to live comfortably getting into what sick perverted fantasies they have in mind out there. One of them even faked their name for a long time when we thought it was their real name, that’s how slimy these assholes can get.
It doesn’t shock me that King Pedo of Pedophiles, is slashing funding.

News@lemmy.world•Amazon to cut thousands of jobs in sweeping corporate layoffs
12·13 days agoI’ve been feeling this with Wal-Mart.
They will cut hours and lay off people around particular periods. And then I’ll go and read on the front page of my work portal that goes “ANOTHER STRONG QUARTER OF EARNINGS!” to put it bluntly.
So, that’s the method now. Maximize profits. Executives get top dollar. At a worker’s expensive.
You are just a statistic.

Technology@lemmy.world•Trump Is Obsessed With Oil. But Chinese Batteries Will Soon Run the World
12·16 days agoNn…no. Just because people are going to be forced to choose China, doesn’t make them good. You should be good based on providing the best and with how China recently handled GPUs, I’m remaining skeptical in their practices.
Sorry bruh, but I don’t think you’ve taken a closer look at where the RAM prices have gone. Do you truly believe people have that much disposable income to continually upgrade entire machines on a regular basis?
People will ultimately build a system if it will suit their needs and purposes within budget. I don’t get what is there about that to get so complicated over.
