2·3 days agowow this is such a behind the scenes look, thank you very much for that and explaining everything in such detail! I feel like this is one of the very few cases where it’s already for “the state” to look up user data, since people actually want and need it to get help :)
wow that is fast!!! Mastodon is definitely slower in this particular case! Somebody sent me a similar ticket from 2024 ;)
Definitely more effective than every disabled person etc. having to generate it! Have you seen the Mastodon image text to alt text feature? I guess they could simply expand on that?

I guess even a questionmark (with a link to a popular website explaining it) next to the alt-field would suffice.
Mastodon actually already has that, but manually! :)

1·4 days agoWow that’s so interesting, thank you for the insight of what’s going on in the background of such a call! It really sounds like most of all you need “patience” for this job ;) I have always been wondering: if somebody calls you and just breathes heavy or stops talking like they passed out or something. What happens next? And how accurately can you figure out where somebodies phone is for example?

3·6 days agoAnd luckily this wasn’t for anything too urgent, it was for credit card fraud or something along those lines. But actual emergencies get called into us all kinds of bass-ackwards ways like someone in another state calls their mom who lives here who calls her local police who transfer her to us so that we can transfer her to the police where the person who’s actually having an emergency is.
Thank you for giving us so much insight and taking the time to explain the background! I haven’t even considered this kind of scenario, I mean this sounds like a patter and something that might even increase as more people rely on bad AI. Can you maybe raise this issue with a higher up office? Also thank you for the important work you are doing, if I had an emergency, I would hope somebody considerate like you is on the other end! :)

2·11 days agoSo yeah. It’s good to have a good discovery algorithm, but it’s also addictive. So it’s good not to have an algorithm, but then it gets difficult to hit critical mass for both creators and consumers.
You can make your own algorithm on many Fediverse platforms, by blocking certain words I guess. I personally like the trending/explore pages.
Loops also has starter kits, to make building their own “alghorithm” easier for new users: https://loops.video/starter-kits/browse
Magic
Yeah I guess no algorithm also has a downside, however if you like to see mostly what your friends and people you follow post, it’s probably much better.
+1 Have you tried loops.video? Honestly the content on normal social media to me, feels extemely low quality compared to Fedi these days.
Certainly, however some are actively trying to get the kids addicted: https://lemmy.world/post/45040542
Hahahah thank you for this one hahaha Actually before this article I was reading: “Fork found on Github” ;)
Zuckerberg evil
🤣 🤣 🤣
mindblowing mindblowing I say haha Sad part is, there are still so many people out there who do not know this yet :( We have to keep raising awareness until then :)
Love that analogy <3 People here are also much much nicer. Not sure why, maybe because it’s more idealists?
their
But in a subtle way to make you think it’s what you wanted eh ;)

Oh cool! Paused but not forgotten eh friend <3 I guess they still have to prioritize UI work, for me a UI improvement to Lemmy was the main reason for checking it out but I was a bit underwhelmed.
