“We are considering that because a lot of people want to see it — the reclassification, because it leads to tremendous amounts of research that can’t be done unless you reclassify. So, we are looking at that very strongly,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

What a nitwit. You can’t reschedule it with an executive order. The substances on those lists are there according to legislation passed by congress and signed by presidents who could actually tell their ass from a hole in the ground. The legislation defines the steps needed to change the classification of drugs on those lists. And an executive order is not one of those steps.
I suppose Trump didn’t notice, but he could arrange for marijuana to be reclassified fairly quickly by just continuing the process that Biden started in October of 2022.
Moving to Schedule III isn’t the right move anyway. He should be pushing Congress to amend the current legislation to remove marijuana from the drug schedules entirely and treat it like tobacco and alcohol.
I mean, he isn’t supposed to have the ability to unilaterally make or change tariffs, either, but if everyone goes along with it, de facto…
Now we know what “considering very strongly” means, coming out of this admin’s cake hole.
The point is to use his overreach of power to legitimize that overreach.
Yeah, you need to wait until the last year of your presidency and then start asking the DEA to start considering looking into thinking about one day rescheduling. And strongly suggest you’re looking for a “no.”
