I don’t see how his comment is transphobic. It just seems reasonable to me. Maybe he’s really transphobic, but his comment just says that we should care about the matter we’re talking about, not the identity of the person who’s talking
I don’t think it’s possible to argue Rossman isn’t some degree of personally transphobic (for context, his video is about Brianna Titone, who is the first openly transgender state legislator elected in Colorado, and he is clearly referencing some degree of disagreement with her identity).
That much being said, he’s highlighting, to conservatives in his own audience, the fact that he wants to be both respectful and actually look beyond those personal beliefs to affect positive change. And based on his larger corpus of work, I don’t think that’s dishonest in any way.
Rossman doesn’t use his influence to lobby against trans rights. I don’t even think anybody would have known he had some personal issues until he mentioned them in a specific example that encourages people to set their own issues aside, for a positive cause.
Precisely. Showing a basic level of respect to work together doesn’t require agreeing on anything.
Yeah that’s pretty transphobic, and it’s weird that he felt the need to make that long of a statement when he could have just said the last bit.
I read that as “I don’t accept trans peoples gender, but will act like I do if it benefits me or my cause”, is there another interpretation I’m missing?
it’s more “i won’t argue or discuss it at all because it has nothing to do with me or my cause”, not do’s or don’t
No, he’s not one to pretend, he’s saying that what he or anyone else thinks about trans people just not relevant to him in virtually everything he does, fixing devices or supporting or rallying against a trans politicians’ position on other issues like technology.
To give a separate example, does Alice Weidel’s sexual orientation have any relevance to your opinion of the German right-wing fascist party leader? No, it’s similarly irrelevant, and I can make assumptions, but you don’t have to tell me you support or oppose gay marriage to know that.
Which is true, but his opinions are still transphobic lol. I don’t hate the guy for this, but let’s not pretend he’s not transphobic.
Yeah I can agree he has transphobic opinions, but they seem to come from a place of ignorance rather than hate because it’s not worth spending his time over.
That’s the part I don’t get, is there worse then the quoted text that they said or?
