Is neofetch even still a thing? Debian seems to have stopped packaging neofetch between 2023 (bookworm) and 2025 (trixie); I just assumed that the original dev stopped keeping it up to date, similar to youtube-dl. I wasn’t in the mood to dig into it and possibly uncover more FOSS drama …
I’m on i3-wm btw. Can’t be arsed to change my setup to Wayland.
You’re right about neofetch. It is no longer supported and therefore a lot of distros don’t even have it in their repositories anymore. Luckily there are enough alternatives (of which fastfetch is one)
Also, if i3 works for you, why should you switch?
Fastfetch also has neofetch config, just alias neofetch to fastfect --config neofetch and you are back to the glory days of neofetch.
Xorg doesn’t get actively developed anymore. I don’t care about new features, but it’s going to get issues with security, compatibility and probably stability at some point. TBF, “at some point” does a lot of work here - I don’t believe that Wayland’s tighter security makes a difference (at least not right now), and I’m still on oldstable, too. So, realistically, I can wait until it’s actually an issue …
Ah OK, didn’t knew that I3 is for X11. Always thought it was for Wayland too.
Nah, i3 is pretty old and like most Xorg WMs, it has no plans for moving Wayland (AFAIK). But Sway is a drop-in replacement that works nearly the same and is even compatible with i3’s config files. I could switch today if there wasn’t all the other stuff that needs to be configured for Wayland (screenshots, clipboard, screenlocker etc.).
